Dry Eyes:
We have known for some time that contact lenses exacerbate the signs and symptoms of dry eye. As we enter our late 30’s and early 40’s our eyes tend to dry out more easily and many adults stop wearing contacts. Now there are daily lenses that are made specifically to help with dry eyes. Multifocal Contacts:
Multifocal contact lenses are contact lenses with multiple prescriptions all in one lens. There is typically a prescription for very close objects, one for normal objects viewed at a distance, and then a prescriptions for intermediate distances. This helps people correct age-related vision problems where the eye can no longer focus on objects up close.
High Prescription:
If you want to wear contacts, but in the past you have had trouble wearing them or been told you are not a good candidate, scleral contact lenses may be the solution for you.
Scleral lenses are larger diameter and gas permeable. They help with the following:
- Sharper vision
- More durable
- Less risk of complications
If you’re not sure if contacts are for you, here are some things to think about:
- Increased Field of view – Since contact lenses are worn right on your eyes, it increases your peripheral (side) vision, which is important for sports and driving.
- lighter and more comfortable – With eyeglasses, you may be more aware of frame, lens edges, or reflections off of the backside of the lenses. Also, eyeglasses sometimes feel too heavy to some wearers, especially on their face or ears.
- No fogging up – With changes in temperature and sometime humidity, eyeglass lenses may have a tendency to fog up. With contact lenses this will never be a problem. Likewise, contact lenses don’t collect precipitation or blur your vision when it rains or snows.
